Director, New Horizons Band
N. Brett Dawson is the Director of Bands for Garfield Heights City Schools, where he teaches grades 6-12 band. Mr. Dawson is a 2011 graduate of the College of Wooster, where he majored in Music Education and a 2021 graduate of Capital University, where he earned his Master of Music in Music Education with Instrumental Emphasis and studied conducting with Dr. Jeffrey Gershman. Brett is the President-Elect for the Ohio Music Education Association’s (OMEA) District 7 and holds active membership in the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA). His students from all over Northeast Ohio have found success at both Solo & Ensemble and Large Group Adjudicated Events, earning Superior ratings. Bands under Mr. Dawson’s direction have successfully performed at Walt Disney World, Nashville, and Washington D.C. He actively plays in the University Heights Community Band where he serves as the principal alto saxophone. Brett is a resident of Broadview Heights where he enjoys reading and house renovating with his two golden retrievers, Sadie and Freddie, and his two cats, Sulley and Rufus.
