New Horizons Band

The New Horizons Program was started at the Eastman School of Music in 1991 and now has more than 100 programs in the United States and Canada. BW’s New Horizons offers adults the opportunity to learn to play a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. It is perfect for adults who have never had the opportunity to play an instrument or for those who played during their school days but have not had the opportunity since.

New Horizons Band generally meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., depending on band schedule.

There are three registration options:

  • Fall Semester, which begins in September
  • Spring Semester, which begins in February
  • Full year

The program consists of full ensemble rehearsals and sectionals with a concert performance at the end of each semester.

Members must have their own instrument. The ensemble will provide music and all rehearsal materials.

New Horizons Band at BW offers a large group playing experience with our full ensemble. There is no audition to participate in NHB. After the large group rehearsal you can choose which chamber group you wish to play with for the last hour.  The new schedule for this semester is as follows:

6:00 - 6:30 Prep and Flex time - members can work one-on-one with staff or prepare themselves for rehearsal to start on time.

6:30 - 7:50 Large Ensemble Rehearsal - downbeat at 6:30 p.m. Will sometimes divide into smaller groups during this time but always begin and and with the full group together.

8:00 - 8:50 Chamber Groups - each member choose which chamber group they would like to play with for the semester.  Each will be featured at the Spring Concert.

The chamber group choices are:

  • Woodwind Ensemble
  • Pops Band
  • Jazz Band
